Recovery Transitional Housing

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." (John 10:10)

Cornerstones Recovery Project is a non-profit organization which falls under the umbrella of This Side of the Rock Fellowship that is based in Fortuna, California.

Currently, we have several recovery transitional homes located throughout Humboldt County. The term "transitional" means that although we are pleased to provide a clean, safe and sober environment, we are not required to be licensed by the state. Housing is provided for people who are ready to make changes to improve their lives. Our many enthusiastic residents include men, women and women with small children.

We provide a variety of programs through our caring outreach. We are especially excited about our very successful 12-Step program called "Celebrate Recovery". On-going enthusiasm has been so consistent and effective, that for over five years now, not a single Monday night has slipped by without robust participation by our strong base group.

We work closely with each participant on co-dependency, alcoholism and substance abuse. This personal attention gives our recovery transitional housing residents the companionship, inspiration and assistance they require in order to reach and maintain their goals and accomplishments.

Staying at one of our homes becomes a challenging, but rewarding, learning and growing experience. Residents are required to pass occasional random urinalysis tests. Each morning, after having finished their morning program (step work and chores), they are allowed to go out to look for work. For the first 30 days, they must be back home by 6:00 p.m. nightly. As an added incentive to stay on the recovery program, after 90 days of good conduct he/she has earned a 36 hour pass to visit family.

Residents can take advantage of a variety of meetings which are offered throughout the week. Traditional NA and AA 12-Step meetings are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also have two popular weekly faith-based meetings which residents can attend on a voluntary basis: "Celebrate Recovery" on Mondays and "Bible Study" on Wednesdays.

Each house is staffed by a caring manager and an able assistant whose first priorities are to provide a safe and comfortable environment conducive to recovery. While at home, residents are under around-the-clock supervision. Only when off-premises looking for work are they on their own. It’s at those more challenging times that the residents can draw on their courage, strength and skills they have developed in order to continue to stay on the straight and narrow.

This Side of the Rock Fellowship" is blessed to have church members who can offer help as required. A licensed drug and alcohol counselor and a certified anger manager are valuable assets on our team.

Well, I’ve tried to introduce you to us and to explain how we run our recovery homes, but, as you might expect, there is much, much more than meets the eye. We would like to show you around first-hand. Feel free to just give us a call anytime at (707)725-9252 so we can share more with you over the phone. There’s always hope, and I feel that together we can find a way for our recovery program to work for everyone.

In closing, I cannot express how much I love having the opportunity to be a part of Humboldt County’s recovery. It enriches all our lives to see our "weakest links" evolve into the "Cornerstones" of our community.

Once again, feel free to call me at (707)725-9252 or write to me at P.O. Box 700, Fortuna CA, 95540
